As I do my usual cleaning, I tackle a little organization too, and come across some of the resources the hospital gave us when Andy was diagnosed. I spent a good ½ hour reading through one book in particular, “The Book of Hope”. I know the intentions of this book are nothing but good but…

It has been a while since our last post and I am happy to report it is because we are happy and busy. Andy is officially in the maintenance phase and is holding his counts steady so far! This is great because he can have a birthday party!!!!!!. Can you believe my little man turns…

C’mon Nov 29th
We are getting closer. We just finished week 2 of some pretty heavy chemo, but every day I watched the poison get injected into my baby I would breathe a sigh of relief because we are that much closer to maintenance. Long term maintenance is still chemo but it is lighter with much fewer trips…

Amazing Race!
We did it. The Sears Great Canadian Run is over and it was an event we will always remember. Our smiles for Andy community raised $40,000. But that is not even the best part. We helped spread awareness about childhood cancer and helped start one of the very few events that run in the honor…

Why we run.
A big milestone for the Smiles for Andy relay team was reached this week. An amazing $25000 in pledges was raised. Treatment Update Oct. 2011

His white blood cell count has dropped to well below normal, which indicates his immune system has become compromised and he will have a…

Delayed Intensification
Andy recently finished up the Interim Maintenance portion of his treatment and I am happy to report that he rocked it. During Interim Maintenance Andy’s blood counts never dropped until the very, very end. He had no fevers, nausea or weird side effects and actually gained some strength, hair and personality. Laugh if you will…

Summertime!
Since our last post Andy has been doing really well. I believe he was previously still fighting off some virus. Now his energy levels are up and his mood is good and he has been handling his chemo treatments really well. As odd as this may sound I am a little sad this phase of…

Walk the Plank!
Well, I think Andy has finally depleted his body. The last week has been pretty rough, Andy has been terribly nauseated, fatigued and irritable. He has lost any desire to really leave the house, or really eat anything that is not a McDonald’s hash brown. Woo hoo McDonald’s (insert sarcasm here). He also caught some…
